Longtime Denver market morning hosts Larry and Kathie J have found a new broadcast home—backed by one of Colorado’s largest marijuana dispensary chains. They’ll premiere next month on an internet radio station backed by The Green Solution and, as part of the deal, host Larry Ulibarri is introducing his own cannabis strain to be sold at the company’s dispensaries.
The duo hosted mornings at Entercom rhythmic CHR “KS 107.5” KQKS Denver for over a decade until their exit last March.
Ulibarri had been hosting a podcast for “The Green Solution” when contract negotiations broke down with Entercom. “I’ve been doing a podcast and live-stream every Friday. And when they became aware we were available, they wanted to put their hat in the ring as far as possibly doing something with Kathie and me,” he told Westword.
Larry and Kathie J will host mornings live on a yet-to-be-named streaming station that will feature music programming outside of their daypart interspersed with “clips from the show, parody spots and interviews,” Ulibarri told the paper. “Kathie does the ‘Everyday’ show on Fox31 and does a lot of interviews with celebrities when she’s on junkets.” The station is slotted for a July 17 launch and will be available via an online app.
The tie-in with the dispensary will have Larry and Kathi J attending ribbon-cutting ceremonies as the company continues its expansion across state lines. In addition to being one of Colorado’s largest dispensaries, five new outlets will be opening in Florida and three in Canada.
The show will also feature the new cannabis strain introduced by Ulibarri, which he says is “a real bucket-list moment.” The strain, appropriately named “Uli-Berry,” is a bubblegum/blueberry blend described as “an Indica-dominant strain that grows short and bushy with heavy and thick resin-covered buds.”
